EVENT: PULP presents Mike Nelson Photography

6 Jun

Arnold Comes Out

Pulp welcomes Artist/Photographer Mike Nelson.  When asked about what guided his motivation, Mr. Nelson said, ” I have always been a creative person. Since as far back as I remember I loved sitting as a kid and cutting things up and putting them back together in my own special way.”  Mike majored in Photography earning his degree from The University of Florida where  where so many artists were just starting to explore the world of photo manipulation in the 80’s. He says, “I guess it stuck with me and I have been inventing my own worlds through photography ever since.”  We are excited about his new collection of work titled ” We gather what we can bear”.  Mr. Nelson explained that this collection explores the journey a person takes through life and the life experiences they collect along the way.

Please stop in to view the artwork and to meet the artist himself. We will have light fare and refreshments on hand.  More information about the event is below.

Interview with Josh Nusbaum of Waterknot Design!

8 Nov
We were luckily able to score an interview with Josh Nusbaum, graphic designer of Waterknot Design. His cards celebrate all occasions, and are now featured at Pulp!
Q:How long have you been in the card business?
A: While I have been designing professionally for over a decade and Jenn and I have been letterpress printing for the last couple of years, we just launched our card line last December.
Q: How many stores carry your products?
A: 90
Q: What’s your favorite occasion to celebrate?
A: Love! We love love. We are both romantics and I have always used my art as a means to express my love for Jenn. She makes it easy and is a constant source of inspiration. So now, without really planning it, love themed cards make up half of our line.
Q: What are your best holiday gift giving tips/ideas?
A: We like to make things – food, crafts, art, music. We always appreciate a hand made gift. It’s so cool to see how much people appreciate being given something that they know you had a personal investment in. Making something for someone else is also a great way to get yourself to slow down, focus and really put some intention into gift giving. That said, as art lovers and closet tech geeks, we fully appreciate finding the perfect small work of art to give or totally wowing someone with the newest ipad.
Thanks for the wonderful interview, Josh! Pulpsters, don’t forget to come down to the store to check out Waterknot Design cards, and check out the Waterknot website!

Holiday Season is here…

And that means we’ve got batches and batches of new holiday cards. No lie, they are everywhere. We have whatever suits your mood…from funny to classic and sophisticated. Come on down to Pulp anytime to check them out! Here’s a little sample…

Interview with Jenny Piette of McBitterson’s!

7 Nov

We interviewed Jenny Piette to learn more about her and her business. She makes handmade items and uses vintage presses for her cards, plus they’re eco-friendly! Her adorable cards are currently featured at Pulp.

Q: How long have you been in the card business?
A: I started doing craft fairs in 2009 as a hobby and made all sorts of silly things, like hand made plaster trophies painted gold with a big “#2” on them.  Needless to say the trophies didn’t sell that well. But the cards were a big hit, and McBitterson’s evolved from there.

Q: How many stores carry your products?
A: Right now we’re in about 60 stores, but adding more all the time!
Q:What’s your favorite occasion to celebrate?
A: I love the baking and decorating and the mad cap preparation that comes with Christmas. And in the end, you can’t deny the magic of a string of twinkling lights.  Halloween comes a close second though.
Q:What are your best holiday gift giving tips/ideas?
A: I keep a list on my phone throughout the year so when I think of a good gift idea for someone I don’t forget. I also like to add a hand made item or two, whether it’s personalized stationery, a funny drawing on a gift tag, or a little box of cookies.

Thanks so much, Jenny!

Don’t forget to check out McBitterson’s cards right here at Pulp, and check out Jenny’s work on her Facebook and website!

Interview with Eva Hamden of Fat Bunny Press!

31 Oct

Eva Hamden of Fat Bunny Press (who designs and prints the cards ALL BY HERSELF) is now featured at Pulp DC. Cute cards for all occasions, everyone is certain to love them! We interviewed Eva to learn more about her history in the business, and to find out some more holiday tips!

Q: How long have you been in the card business?

A: I grew up loving paper. My mom was a connoisseur of stationery (still is) and I just picked it up at a young age. Over the years I would make greeting cards for friends and family, but I considered it a hobby until I actually learned the business. I have been making greeting cards professionally since 2009, when I started as a letterpress apprentice in Oakland, California. I learned the trade, how to use the presses and eventually began designing and printing Fat Bunny Press greeting cards!

Q: How many stores carry your products?

A: I am proud to be in 17 boutiques around the country and one retail chain!

Q: What’s your favorite occasion to celebrate?

A: Halloween is my favorite holiday. To start, the weather is crisp, the leaves are changing, and there are pumpkin flavors aplenty. Then, you get to dress up in silly costumes! I studied theater in college so it helps that I love performing, but mostly I just think it’s fun to wear something ridiculous. Also there’s candy! My teeth have suffered from the occasional cavity but they have some sweet memories of Halloween.

Q: What are your best holiday gift giving tips/ideas?

A:I think an opportunity to give a gift is the chance to make someone’s life a little bit better. I try to think not only what the person might like or need, but what also will help them relax, enjoy life, and have fun. I also like to buy gifts that can be useful, something that’s not just going to be added to a pile of stuff. You should do your best to keep the recipient in mind: buying makeup for a friend who can’t find a budget for beauty products, a Tempurpedic pillow for a father with neck problems, or a dried wreath for a hostess. Make sure the gift says, “I was thinking of you and who you are.” In the end, the thought behind the gift will always matter most.

Thanks so much Eva for chatting with us! Don’t forget to pick up Fat Bunny Press cards right here at Pulp DC! And check out Eva’s work on Fat Bunny Press’s Facebook and site!
